German Unity Day in Bremen: Ariane 6 in the limelight

Large crowds gathered in a spirit of good cheer and community at the 3-day Bremen festival, in which ArianeGroup celebrated the close connection between the Hanseatic city and the space industry.

It was a surreal experience to see the Ariane 6 replica proudly on display in Bremen’s historic centre, to the sound of the municipality’s oompah marching band. ArianeGroup’s large launcher model truly occupied a place of honour during the commemorative celebration of German Unity Day from 2 to 4 October.

ArianeGroup also set up a futuristic-looking Exhibition Dome next to the 17-meter-high Ariane replica. Just like at the last Berlin ILA tradeshow, visitors could experience a launch simulation with smoke effects and specialized sound and lighting, by simply pressing a button!

While children participated in games and colouring activities in the exhibition area, parents were able to talk to ArianeGroup staff about the company’s projects, Ariane 6, career opportunities in the European space industry, and multiple other topics. Attendance remained strong throughout the 3-day national festival.

The steady stream of visitors also never waned at the space-themed pavilion next to City Hall which hosted danse performances and small concerts. ArianeGroup representatives gave short presentations on various topics such as the Group’s professions, the importance of space travel, and the company’s activities in Bremen.

Much more than a promotional event, the festival in Bremen reenforced ArianeGroup’s strong decades-long ties with the Hanseatic city and the approximately 650 people it employs. Three memorable days of public celebration offered the some 550,000 visitors a meaningful glimpse into the company.

Such a resounding success would not have been possible without the large number of ArianeGroup employees who volunteered to share their passion for space with the general public and answer their countless questions. Thanks everyone!
